Frequently Asked Questions

What is an EARFCN?
E-UTRA Absolute Radio Frequency Channel Number (EARFCN) is a number that uniquely identifies an LTE carrier frequency. Each EARFCN maps to a specific center frequency in the DL or UL direction. EARFCNs for DL range from 0 to 65535 depending on the band.
Why are there separate DL and UL EARFCNs in FDD?
FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) uses separate frequencies for downlink and uplink, so each has its own channel number. The UL EARFCN is derived from the DL EARFCN using a fixed offset that depends on the band. TDD bands use the same frequency for both, so they have only one EARFCN.
How do I find my LTE EARFCN?
On Android phones, you can find the EARFCN in engineering mode (dial *#*#4636#*#* and check the "Phone Information" or LTE stats section). On field test devices, EARFCN is typically shown alongside RSRP and RSRQ in the serving cell information.
